Aphelia peramplana vallettai  Hübner, 1825
Taxonomical Classification:  Animalia / Arthropoda / Insecta / Lepidoptera / Tortricidae
English name not known     Maltese name not known
Further Information:
Locally, larvae normally feed on Urginea pancration (Urginea maritima / Drimia maritima), scraping the outer leaf layer and constructing a silken retreat between leaves, in which it pupates. The species in Malta was found to differ from the typical form and consequently the subspecies vallettai was described - the epithet given to a Maltese lepidopterist named A. Valletta. (N.b. in this case the epithet is after the surname not the capital city of Malta!)
